"Weblication is publication via the Web - making the content collection available through a portal. It offers the user:
- One stop shopping that provides access to the content collection, services, and a collaborative community. Services in this context are information related. It might mean for example, providing links to other related information (from other sources). Collaboration community means providing an environment in which subscribers can interact with each other, and with authors, via the weblication.
- Content repositories which are structured so that content collections can be mixed and matched to meet a subscriber's specific inquiries.
- Personalized views that provide access in the context of an individual's preferences and business, or academic needs.
- Flexible navigation based on rich content structure and taxonomies, using predefined roadmaps and free-form searches.
The goal of weblification is to transform a Web site which merely posts print-formatted documents, into a portal that simplifies access to complex information, is context specific, provides useful services in addition to information, and fosters a collaborative and community environment.
